What's My Line? Live on Stage (14 September 2005)
Appearing as Mystery Guest Live On Stage at The Acme Comedy Theatre, Los Angeles, California. Following the format of the classic television game show which ran from from 1950 to 1967 on CBS and its successor which ran from 1968 to 1978 in syndicated markets (and during whose run James MacArthur appeared as a Mystery Guest on 23 December 1971), this live version is performed as an unscripted, unrehearsed stage show. Like its predecessors, there are three guests with unusual occupations and a celebrity Mystery Guest who must be identified by the panelists. In the case of the Mystery Guest, the panelists are blindfolded and may only ask questions which can be answered yes or no. The panelists for this performance were Graham Elwood, himself a former game show host currently working on a documentary about life in Afganistan, actress Ann Magnuson, comic book artist and writer Len Wein, and actress Debra Wilson. The host is comedy host and producer J. Keith van Straaten. For his appearance this time, James MacArthur chose to disguise his voice with a deep, gravelly, quasi-British accent, leading to a truly hilarious moment when panelist Graham Elwood, having learned that the night's mystery guest had starred in a cop show based in Hawaii, asked if he were perhaps John Hillerman. Needless to say, James MacArthur's vehement and mock outraged "NO!" brought the house down! Further hilarity and fun ensued, when it was learned that Mr. Elwood is, in fact, an enormous fan of Hawaii Five-O. It was Ann Magnuson who eventually correctly guessed James MacArthur's identity.
