The Rush Limbaugh Show (2 May 1996)

Appearing as Dan Williams/Himself

On 2 May 1996, James MacArthur, during a visit to the East Coast of the United States, decided to attend a taping of the popular Rush Limbaugh Show. While he was waiting on line to enter the studio, someone from Limbaugh's production staff recognized MacArthur and approached him, asking if he'd be willing to participate in a hastily-contrived opening sketch for that night's show. MacArthur agreed, and thus was born Hawaii 4.50, a hilarious couple of minutes in which a goofy-looking beach bum is asked by a microphone-wielding reporter whether he believes tax cuts benefit the economy or only benefit the rich, replies with a stock (and patently absurd) left-wing answer, and is subsequently 'booked' for his wrongdoing (and sheer stupidity?) by our very own Danno (using as his 'badge' a copy of Limbaugh's then recently-published book, naturally). Even the 'opening credits' for the sequence will spark a laugh. Instead of using an actual audio clip of the theme (other than a very quick burst of the familiar drum roll), it features the voices of several women singing along lustily: ba-ba-ba-BAH-bahm-bahm...
