Unaired Television Pilot (filmed 11 July 1999)

Appearing as Host

Synopsis by Curator@jmdigitalscrapbook.com:

This unaired pilot for a planned weekly television series was aimed, as suggested by its title, at viewers aged 50 and older, and was designed to emphasize that idea that just because one is reaching one's "twilight years," one doesn't have to stop living a full and rewarding life. The program featured five segments:

  • Changing Course: A visit with the Los Angeles Maritime Institute, which runs a program for underprivileged and "at-risk" children designed to teach them the benefits of teamwork and the satisfaction which comes from hard work and a job well done, in addition to putting across the idea that learning can be fun. The group runs two topsail schooners: The Swift of Ipswich (aboard which this segment was filmed) and The Bill of Rights.

  • Entrepreneur of the Week: A Mother's Touch, a one-woman company founded with the idea of teaching new parents how to be parents through the concept of simple relaxation and the importance of human contact.

  • Exclusive - Hospital of the Future: A look at the new Heart Hospital and Heart Institute of the Desert in Rancho Mirage, California, where patients receive in-depth and focused care from diagnosis through treatment (including, if necessary, surgery) and recovery all in one place and under the supervision of a single team of doctors and nurses.

  • Spotlights - Janet Leigh: The actress and author talks about her life, her famous children, her three marriages (including her highly successful third and final marriage of 35 years) and her second career as an author, as well as her hobbies of dog breeding, tennis, and skiing.

  • Travelogue - African Adventure: Enjoy a real African safari camp at Legendary Adventures Camp, Khundum Preserve, Botswana, Africa, a group which operates three-day and week-long camping trips through lower Africa designed specifically for the older traveller.
